The EKN Exzenter-Klappen-Normprogramm (Eccentric Butterfly Valve Standard Programme) is being developed.

The invention of the EKN

The technical and economic advantages of this new type, which was presented in 1976, revolutionise the use of valves in water supply.

Compared to its predecessor, a shut-off valve with centric bearing, the innovation of the new type is the double-eccentric bearing of its disk. Through the shift of the point of rotation, the seal does not rub tangentially in the seat. It has a better sealing effect, the path of friction becomes shorter and there is less shearing stress.

These and other properties soon make the EKN an integral part of long-distance pipelines, plants and municipal gas and water supply systems.

The German term “Normprogramm” describes a kind of kit system. With this system, VAG not only offers the right valve for water supply applications but also for use in many other areas such as:

  • Gas supply
  • Wastewater disposal
  • Industry
  • Power stations
  • Sea-water desalination

Having been successful in the market for almost 50 years, the platforms of the VAG EKN® Butterfly Valves continue to be optimised. They feature maximum reliability of function, highest energy efficiency, a long service life and are thus exemplary in terms of sustainability.
