Valves around 100 years ago

Who knows the Kreuter brake?

This
patented valve goes back to a design by Professor F. Kreuter. It belongs to the
valve range of our company in the 1920s. What is it used for?

According to its original description, the Kreuter brake serves e.g. “for the safe discharge of water under high pressure from bottom outlets of dams”. Tasks that now have been performed for a long time by other bottom outlet valves such as hollow-jet discharge valves.

The system consists of a braking basin and the actual brake with hydraulic shut-off and manual control.

The Kreuter brake with its bizarre look is also used in power stations and “for the sectioning of major heads in drinking water pipelines”.
